Job summary

ARCO, a family of construction companies, is seeking an Assistant Controller with audit experience to join our Chicago accounting team. You will work closely with senior management, project managers, and our leadership team to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.

Responsibilities include monthly statements, job cost reconciliation, intercompany allocations, budgeting, and assisting with year-end audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting is required.
• 3–8 years of public or construction accounting experience.
• CPA preferred.
• Construction industry experience is a plus.
• Advanced Excel and IT skills preferred.
• Strong communication and ability to work with Senior Management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and reconcile job cost for the various ARCO/Murray companies.
• Monitor accounting transactions daily and resolve issues as they occur.
• Prepare and assist with monthly bank reconciliations and intercompany allocations (A/P).
• Balance intercompany cash accounts and assist PMs and Leadership with subcontracts and job cost details.
• Collaborate with accounts payable to review payment requests (invoices, check requests).
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting process.
• Assist with year-end audit.
• Respond to information requests and analyses from leadership.
• Work on a variety of projects delegated by VP of Accounting or other Leadership.

We are looking for an Assistant Controller with audit experience to join our established accounting team in one of our Chicago offices. You will work closely with our accounting, project management, and leadership teams.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Prepare monthly financial statements and reconcile the job cost for the various ARCO/Murray companies.
• Monitor accounting transactions throughout the month and resolve any issues that occur in the process daily
• Prepare and assist with monthly bank reconciliations and intercompany allocations (A/P)
• Balance intercompany cash accounts and interact with the Project Managers and Leadership to assist them with subcontracts, insurance issues, and job cost details
• Collaborate with accounts payable to review and approve payment requests (invoices, check requests forms, etc)
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting process
• Assist with year-end audit
• Respond to requests for information and analysis from the leadership team within the ARCO/Murray family of companies on various accounting and financial issues
• Work on a variety of different projects throughout the month that are delegated from the Vice President of Accounting or other Leadership

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

• Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Accounting
• 3-8 years of public or construction related accounting experience preferred
• CPA preferred
• Experience in the construction industry is also considered a plus but is not required
• Advanced Excel and IT Skills considered a plus
• The ideal candidate will be able to adapt their communication style to suit different audiences and be an effective communicator

Candidates must have the ability to establish good working relationships with Senior Management
