Role Overview
The Assistant Construction Manager will support the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and/or EPC Project Manager or Program Manager in managing project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, proposals, estimates, documentation, turnover, client interface, field activities, and other tasks essential for executing EPC projects, construction management, and program management initiatives. The role involves working on diverse projects across industries such as aviation, commercial, electrical transmission & distribution, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process, and water.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety programs, training, and policies; collaborate on safety and health performance management.
- Build and maintain client relationships; interface with clients on proposals and project matters.
- Assist in risk reviews and legal consultations related to projects.
- Develop and implement project plans including execution, quality, safety, subcontracting, staffing, and procurement plans.
- Participate in negotiating and executing contracts, change orders, and purchase agreements.
- Support site mobilization/demobilization planning and permit acquisition.
- Coordinate bid processes, RFPs, scope development, and contract documentation.
- Manage project documentation, change management, and contract administration tasks.
- Assist in project cost reporting, scheduling, and progress tracking.
- Report on project status, risks, schedules, costs, and cash flows; prepare meeting minutes.
- Support invoicing, documentation, and project closeout activities.
- Verify compliance with insurance, licensure, taxes, and securities requirements.
- Conduct safety, quality, and financial audits as needed.
- Manage material receipt, inventory, and logistics.
- Collaborate with superintendents to ensure subcontractor compliance with safety, quality, and schedule.
- Coordinate project turnover, recordkeeping, and warranty processes.
- Ensure policy compliance across all project activities.
- Assist in developing labor agreements and onboarding field staff.
- Analyze labor and equipment costs, manage staffing, and monitor labor burdens.
- Maintain accurate classifications and training standards for craft workers.
- Estimate and forecast labor and equipment costs; ensure schedule and cost metrics are met.
- Manage construction equipment inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field; 3+ years relevant experience or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with project management software preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in construction projects within industries such as aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water is preferred.
- Basic understanding of GAAP; valid driver’s license per company requirements.
