City Of Eagle Pass is seeking an Assistant Community Development Director to lead complex planning and building initiatives, supervise staff, and coordinate among planners, plan reviewers, and inspectors. This role involves developing long-range plans, updating codes, and representing the City with regional and state agencies, while guiding budget processes and intergovernmental collaboration.
A bachelor’s in urban planning or related field is required, with six years’ experience and AICP
Plans and manages complex and special planning and building projects, complex current planning, and highly sophisticated technical research and analysis.Provides leadership, project coordination, and serves as primary resource for a variety of specialized planning and building functions.Oversees the development of, and updates to, comprehensive and long-range plans building codes and associated policies and programs.Provides policy advice and represents the City with regional and state agencies.

Requires in-depth knowledge in the application of application of land use, physical and environmental design, building code, and zoning and practices.Requires knowledge of and skill at organizing, planning, and coordinating projects.Requires working knowledge of the principles, processes and practices of public administration.Requires in-depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, requirements and criteria governing planning and building.Requires sufficient math skills to perform statistical analysis and interpret complex plans and maps.Requires knowledge of the methods and techniques used in citizen involvement and external communications.Requires well-developed human relations skill to conduct persuasive formal presentations to diverse audiences, facilitate small group processes, present ideas clear, resolve conflict, and convey technical concepts to others.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, or similar discipline and six years of progressive experience in urban planning.
Requires an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or must obtain within two years of employment. Requires a valid driver’s license.
Work is performed indoors where some safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of medium weight, yet, awkward materials.
