Job summary

The Warren County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office seeks an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney to serve the citizens of Warren County through fair and effective prosecution of criminal cases in all courts.

This position performs difficult professional work including preparing cases, trying cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations, and Circuit Courts, and providing litigation support to law enforcement. Eligibility to practice law in Virginia is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school and considerable experience as a practicing attorney.
• Some experience in the practice of criminal law.
• Eligibility to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute criminal cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations, and Circuit Courts.
• Prepare cases, present discovery, and provide legal research and writing for trials.
• Represent the Welfare Department in Juvenile Court; interview officers, victims, and witnesses.

The Warren County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is seeking dedicated and experienced Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney to serve the citizens of Warren County through the fair and effective prosecution of criminal cases. This position will be involved in prosecuting cases in all courts representing the Commonwealth.

This position performs difficult professional work as a prosecutor for the County and for the State. Duties include preparing cases for prosecutions, trying cases in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Circuit Courts.

Other duties, prepares and presents cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court, tries criminal and civil offenses brought under County and State Statutes, represents the Welfare Department in certain matters before the Juvenile Court, reviews cases and charges with law enforcement personnel, interviews officers, victims, witnesses and other individuals in preparing cases, prepares legal research and writing for issues anticipated in criminal trials, prepares discovery responses and bill of particular responses. Additional duties include providing assistance to citizens and law enforcement officers and negotiating with opposing counsel. Performs related tasks as required.

Anycombination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited law school and considerable experience as a practicing attorney, some of which shall have been in the practice of criminal law.

Special requirements include the eligibility to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and possession of any other qualifications as prescribed by state statute.

The starting salary range is $80,350.17–$95,511.10, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes an excellent benefits package.
