Position Summary

The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the effective management and administration of all aspects of an intercollegiate program to provide a positive and beneficial experience for student-athletes. They will assist with all aspects of recruiting and scouting. The Assistant Coach will engage with donors and fans to promote interest in the volleyball program. They will also serve as a point of contact for the Athletics Marketing team and Sports Information Directors, ensuring that milestones are recognized and that proper media coverage is given to team events. Additionally, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for coordinating team travel arrangements and meal planning. They will also attend all program-related meetings as assigned by the Head Coach.

Workplace Requirements

This position is exclusively on-site, requiring all duties to be performed in person on campus during regular office hours, mornings, nights, and weekends as the team schedule requires. Regular travel is expected. Per Rice Policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change. Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts and manages all aspects of a sports program according to participating conference, NCAA, Rice University, and Athletic Department rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Develops and organizes recruiting records, logs, and contact information for a sports program per NCAA regulations.
  • Scouts and recruits student-athletes and supports prospective athletes through the admissions process.
  • Monitors the academic progress of athletes to ensure player eligibility.
  • Demonstrates game techniques and recommends player position assignments.
  • Participates in pre- and post-workouts and plans and schedules coaching sessions according to established standards.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair work for athletic equipment.
  • Promotes athletic programs through community events, fundraising, public speaking, and marketing.
  • Teaches the fundamentals and strategies of women's volleyball at the collegiate level.
  • Critiques and provides professional feedback to athletes.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
