Western Michigan University seeks a dedicated college athletics coach to mentor student-athletes for academic and life success. You will coach, recruit, and develop players while ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and university policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of relevant coaching experience.
  • Proven recruiting, training, coaching, evaluating, and supervising student athletes for academic and athletic success.
  • Master’s degree and NCAA Division I/coaching experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively prepare players for each game and season to maximize athletic performance.
  • Teach, mentor and foster student-athletes in mental wellness, time management, teamwork and social skills.
  • Prepare to teach/coach using film, evaluations, strength & conditioning, and statistics to improve performance.
  • Identify, evaluate, scout, recruit, and interview prospective student-athletes and families to secure top talent.
  • Maintain adherence to University, Conference and NCAA rules; handle fundraising, budgeting, travel, housing, and gear.
  • Perform additional duties to support the athletic department and student-athlete success.

General Summary

Effectively coach, teach, prepare, positively motivate and mentor student-athletes for Academic, Athletics and Life successes.

Major Duties
  • Effectively prepare players for each game and each season with dedication so as to assist the student-athletes to attain their maximum level of athletic performance and to successfully compete against major college competition.
  • Effectively teach, mentor and foster student-athletes in key areas such as mental wellness, time management, team work and social interaction abilities so as to prepare student-athletes for academic and life success.
  • Prepare to teach/coach using game/practice film, practice session evaluations, strength & conditioning session evaluations, statistical analysis and other sport specific industry best practices, prepare lesson (practice) plans to improve student-athletes knowledge base and skill set resulting in improved performance.
  • Identify, evaluate, scout, recruit, and interview prospective student-athletes and their parents/guardians/stakeholders in an effort to secure the best possible student-athletes for the Program and University.
  • Maintain strict adherence to University, Conference and NCAA rules in effectively performing administrative duties. Sample administrative duties might include: Fundraising activities, Budget management, team travel planning, equipment coordination, NCAA CARA (Countable athletic related activities) documentation, recruiting scheduling and trip planning, University housing/meal plan services, the arrangement of pre-season training camp details and other duties of similar administrative capacity to these example duties.
  • Additional duties as assigned to contribute to the athletic department and the success of student athletes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of relevant coaching experience.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in recruiting, training, coaching, evaluating, and supervising student athletes to attain their maximum level of academic and athletic performance, and to compete successfully against major college competition in a quality program.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3 years’ relevant coaching experience.
  • Coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level, and/or professional playing experience.
  • High level offensive development and recruiting experience.
