Job Summary

Help lead a vibrant Women's Basketball Team with an impressive record and dedicated students, while offering your teaching skills in the College of Education. Valdosta State University is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The Lady Blazers finished the 2023-2024 season with a 30-3 record overall, setting a new school-record for consecutive wins at 27 games. This marked the third-longest winning streak in GSC history, and the program-best 23-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Blazers won both the GSC regular season and conference tournament titles.

Selected candidate will be responsible for assisting in coaching and managing an assigned university sports program (women's basketball).

This is a 12-month benefited Athletic Department position with teaching responsibilities in the Teacher Education Department, College of Education.

Responsibilities

Typical Allocation of Duties:

(percentages may vary throughout the year depending on the needs of the unit):

Supervise, instruct, and train - 70%
Supervise, instruct, and train student-athletes through practices and the monitoring of academic progress and through game-day team management.

Recruitment - 10%
Recruit student athletes. Attend high school sporting events to identify potential recruits.

Assist in overseeing facilities - 10%
Assist in overseeing the maintenance of sports facilities and the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.

Schedule games and manage travel - 10%
Assist in developing game schedules and in managing team travel.

Supervisor Expectations

Position is involved in all aspects of the Women's Basketball program to include, but not be limited to:

  • On-court coaching.
  • Video scouting and review of opponents.
  • Recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Monitoring of academic status of student-athletes.
  • Coordination of outside community activities.
  • Supervision of graduate assistant and student assistant coaches and staff.
  • Scheduling of opponents.
  • Coordination of travel.

An ideal candidate will possess:

  • A master's degree and a minimum of one-year of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • An academic and teaching background in health, physical education, human performance or related field.
  • Experience as a collegiate student-athlete.

Master's degree and over three (3) years of related work experience in coaching field.

Commensurate with experience.
