Job description

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Head Cross Country & Track and Field Coach, the Assistant Coach will serve as a member of the Department of Athletics and be responsible for the administration of all aspects relating to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate athletics experience for student-athletes. Must be available nights and weekend hours. This position will work directly with the men’s and women’s track and field programs in programming and recruiting (sprints and jumps), as well as other duties assigned by the head coach.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Organizing and conducting skill instruction, practice, and training schedules for the men’s and women’s sprints and jumps.
• Effectively manage relationships with student-athletes, coaches and the broader campus community
• Strategize and meet recruiting goals along with all other aspects of the evaluation of prospective student-athletes
• Provide appropriate leadership in practice and competitive environments
• Conduct sound fiscal management and participate in fundraising activities supporting the program
• Ensure a quality student-athlete experience through community engagement, campus involvement, and competitive achievement
• Monitor academic and disciplinary standing of student-athletes
• Establish positive relationships with support staff
• Assist in planning as well as participate in cross country/track and field camps and clinics
• Represent the cross country and track and field program as designated by the head coach
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive school vehicles per board policy (including the occasional driving for the cross country programs).
• Ability to drive up to 15 passenger van/coach bus
• Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 1 or more years experience coaching collegiate sprints and jumps
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

• Master’s degree NCAA Division II athletic or coaching experience
• A thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations and policies of NCAA and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will report to the Head Cross Country & Track and Field Coach

Work Environment:

Moderate noise (weight room). Ability to share an office with Associate Head Coach Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period. Ability to carry out campus tours and recruiting calls.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lead walking tours of campus. Ability to coach in hot and cold weather conditions. Light to moderate lifting is required

Travel:

• Must be able to travel to overnight and/or day trip track meets in spring semester as listed in track schedule.

Compensation

The salary range is $32,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
