General Summary of Position:

The Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country is responsible for leading all aspects of developing and managing a competitive Division I program within the parameters designated by the University, America East Conference, and the NCAA.

Essential Job Duties:
  1. Assist with student-athlete development and performance (60%)
    • Organizing, recruiting/evaluating student-athletes
    • Conducting and supervising team practices and conditioning
    • Preparing and implementing training strategies
    • Using technology to enhance recruiting, scouting, and performance
    • Mentoring student-athletes academically and personally
    • Creating a supportive environment for student-athlete welfare
  2. Assist with administrative management (20%)
    • Participating in conferences and NCAA meetings
    • Adhering to rules and regulations
    • Developing strategic plans
    • Creating competition schedules
    • Managing budgets for equipment, travel, and recruiting
  3. Supervise staff (10%)
    • Overseeing academic progress of athletes
    • Collaborating with sports performance and health care staff
  4. Serve as a University Ambassador (10%)
    • Engaging in fundraising
    • Representing the Department at events
    • Building alumni relationships
    • Community outreach and participation
Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Travel required; evenings and weekends work expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years coaching, recruiting, and administrative experience in college/university track and field
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules
  • Understanding of sport techniques and strategies
  • High ethical standards and commitment to academic success
  • Proven recruiting success regionally and nationally
  • Experience in diverse environments
  • Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mentoring and leadership skills
  • Experience coaching Middle Distance events
  • Division I coaching experience
  • Familiarity with the Northeast Region
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
