Job summary

Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX seeks an Assistant Coach (Softball) to support the head coach with team administration, practice planning, conditioning, and monitoring student-athlete academics. You will help recruit and evaluate prospective student-athletes and coordinate travel and schedules.

Responsibilities include ensuring NCAA compliance, maintaining rosters and recruiting databases, and assisting in public relations and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • One year of coaching experience at high school or collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with routine administrative duties and team management.
  • Coordinate practice sessions, conditioning, and travel.
  • Recruit and scout prospective student-athletes from various levels.
  • Make recommendations on athletic development and potential of student-athletes.

Job Summary

The Assistant Coach (Softball) provides assistance to the headcoach with all areas of team administration and management,including practice sessions, conditioning workouts, monitoring ofstudent-athletes academic progress, and evaluation and recruitingof prospective student-athletes for the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the head coach and other staff members with routineadministrative responsibilities of the assigned sport program andmanagement of the men/women's team.
  • Coaches, at the direction of the head coach, provideinstruction, demonstration and teaching the sport's dynamics tostudent-athletes to ensure maximum potential of individuals and theteam as a whole.
  • Recruit and scout prospective student-athletes from highschool, junior and community colleges
  • Make recommendations to the head coach regarding potential ofstudent-athletes.
  • Stay current, understand, and adhere to all NCAA guidelines andmaintain up-to-date rosters, squad lists, and other informationusing the Compliance Assistant Internet (CAI) program and ARMSsoftware.
  • Assist in coordinating and developing organized schedules andsubmitting weekly countable hours report according to NCAA policy.Will report any violations of these established rules, which mayarise, to the proper officials.
  • Assist head coach in coordinating team travel, arrangingcompetitive schedule, organizing and scheduling practice sessions,updating and maintaining student-athlete recruiting databases,updating and maintaining files (both hard copy and video) ofopponents.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive publicrelations program.
  • Assist in managing the operations of sport camps and/orclinics.
  • Assist in managing all department fund-raising and boosterevents in accordance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, andinstitutional rules, policies, and procedures
  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules andregulations concerning student-athlete conduct, appearance, roadgames, punctuality and other areas.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist in ensuring satisfactory academic performance ofstudent-athletes.
  • Manages study hall hours and coordinates with the academicadvisers to monitor and support student-athletes' academicprogress.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree for a regionallyaccredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience - One year of previous high school,collegiate or higher-level coaching.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
  • General knowledge of NCAA rules.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
Ability to
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
