Job Summary

The Center for Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing an outstanding student-centered athletic experience through the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. The assistant coach for RIT’s Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program will join an exceptional staff dedicated to creating an experience that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of our student-athletes, preparing them for success as leaders in the global community.

Reporting to the Head Coach for Men’s Ice Hockey, the assistant coach will provide leadership for RIT’s Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program. The candidate must possess outstanding technical, tactical, and strategic knowledge of ice hockey. Responsibilities include assisting with recruitment, supervision, mentoring, coaching, planning, scheduling, and implementing activities related to the team, including practices, games, player development, and advisement. The role requires adherence to NCAA, league, and university rules and regulations, with a strong emphasis on ethical conduct and compliance.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Coaching and Instruction: Build relationships with players, coach during practices and games, support physical conditioning, and conduct player evaluations.
  2. Team Development: Stay current with sport trends, assist in practice planning, scouting, film analysis, and devising game strategies.
  3. Collaboration: Communicate with athletic trainers, strength coaches, and other staff; build relationships with alumni, fans, and community; coordinate campus visits and fundraising efforts.
  4. Recruitment: Assist in developing recruitment strategies, maintain prospective athlete database, and coordinate campus visits.
  5. Program Administration: Monitor player eligibility, ensure compliance with NCAA and university policies, and assist with administrative duties.

The position may serve as a backup to the Head Coach and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years of collegiate coaching experience or equivalent
  • Experience as a player or coach with the ability to instruct and improve performance
  • Ability to pass NCAA Coaches Certification Test and obtain AED/CPR and First Aid certifications

Salary Range: $52,300 - $87,600
