Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Field Hockey (GA015). The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing and/or coaching student athletes in the fundamentals of field hockey by demonstrating techniques and methods necessary for success during collegiate competition; informing student athletes of the applicable university, Mid-American Conference and NCAA rules and regulations; and evaluating student athletes' strengths and weaknesses to improve the athletes' technique to increase the success rate during collegiate competition.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coaching knowledge and techniques: Must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles. Additionally, must show the ability to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions.
  • Recruiting - scout, identify, and recommend student athletes in such a manner that encourages diversity, while maintaining a competitive team.
  • Academic success of student athletes - monitor the academic progress of student athletes and assist in ensuring academic success.
  • Fiscal responsibility - ensure the field hockey program, as a member ofits staff, executes the professional duties in a fiscally responsible manner in compliance with NCAA, Commonwealth of Virginia laws, Longwood University and the athletics department policies and procedures.
  • Rules compliance - Assists the head coach in the management of the field hockey program in full compliance with NCAA rules and regulations, Commonwealth of Virginia laws, Longwood University and the athletics department policies and procedures.
  • Community and university involvement - perform public relations functions promoting Longwood athletes in a positive manner to the media, alumni, and community. Work collaboratively with the head coach and university advancement to cultivate and promote donor relations to ensure the fund-raising efforts are successful.
  • Marketing, planning and organizing camps and clinics throughout the year in accordance with university policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Master's degree or equivalent training and work experience required.
  • A minimum of four years of coaching field hockey at the collegiate level required.
  • Playing experience as a NCAA Division I student-athlete is preferred.
  • Experience with video analysis software is required, experience with Sports Code is preferred.
  • Experience with recruit management software required, experience with ARMS preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable state laws, university, Mid-American Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations as they relate to the administration of the university field hockey program.
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching, coaching, and mentoring others.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of field hockey.
