Job summary

Punahou School is seeking an Assistant Coach for the Boys Varsity Basketball Team. The role assists the head coach by organizing needs within the athletic program, conducting practices, and motivating student-athletes.

The ideal candidate has coaching experience in an educational setting, strong communication and organizational skills, and a history of effective coaching with adolescents. Work hours are late afternoons and weekends during the winter season with a competitive stipend.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• One year of positive leadership experience coaching or leading in an interscholastic program.
• Background in teaching is preferred with experience working with adolescents.
• Knowledge of the value of athletics and competition at the high school level.
• Substantial knowledge of the game demonstrated through planning practices and game strategies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach with organizing the needs of the sport within the athletic program.
• Conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
• Demonstrate positions and teaching/coaching practices typical to basketball.

Punahou School is actively recruiting an Assistant Coach for the Boys Varsity Basketball Team. The Assistant Coach position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the needs of the sport within the Athletic Program. This position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. The ideal candidate will have previous experience coaching a Basketball team in an educational setting, good communication and organizational skills, physical ability to demonstrate positions usual to the sport, and a positive and effective track record of coaching performance.

Position Details

• Work Year: 3 Months
• School Year: 2026-2027, Winter Season
• Work Hours: Monday - Friday late afternoons, and weekends
• Stipend Range*: $1,560 - $3,450 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• One (1) year of positive and effective experience with a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic program as a coach, or other related athletic experience.
• Background in teaching preferred, with experience working with adolescents.
• Knowledge of the value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level.
• Substantial knowledge of the game as demonstrated through the development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive and defensive schemes, implementation of off-season expectations for student athletes, and the implementation of effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices.
