Job summary

Regional School District 13 is seeking an Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Frank Ward Strong Middle School for the Winter 2026-2027 season. The coach reports to the Athletic Director/Building Principal/Head Coach and helps players develop skills and a spirit of discipline and sportsmanship.

The role includes coaching, practice planning, equipment coordination, safety oversight, and adherence to district policies while promoting core values within the school community.

Qualifications

• First Aid/CPR certification is required.
• Concussion Module training certificate is required.
• Valid CT Coaching Certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in skills for excellent individual and team achievement.
• Assists in planning and scheduling a regular practice program in season.
• Assists in recommending equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Oversees safety conditions of the facility during practice and competition.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior and administers penalties as needed.
• Seeks to improve the overall quality of the basketball program.
• Supports and promotes the District's ethical values with students, staff and parents.

Position: Assistant Coach - Boys Basketball

School: Frank Ward Strong Middle School

Reports to: Athletic Director/Building Principal/Head Coach

Primary Function: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.

Job Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To:

1. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent individual and team achievement in the sport

involved.

2. Assists in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.

3. Assists in recommending purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.

4. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are

present.

5. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such

standards by individual students.

6. Seeks to improve the overall quality of the program of the sport involved.

7. Supports and promotes the District's Core Ethical Values with students, colleagues and parents.

The successful candidate must obtain the following requirements upon being hired and prior to beginning any coaching duties:

• First Aid/CPR Certificate
• Proof of Completion of Module 15 - Concussion Module Coaches Training Certificate
• Valid CT Coaching Certificate
