Job summary

City of Chesapeake is seeking an Assistant City Surveyor to support municipal surveying needs and project work within the city's departments. The role requires a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum of four years of related surveying experience and a drive to meet licensure timelines.

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, and a Virginia SIT designation or the ability to obtain it within one year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in land surveying, engineering, or closely related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of related land surveying experience.
• A minimum of four years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting City Driving Standards.
• Virginia designation as a Surveyor in Training (SIT) or ability to obtain within one year.
• Virginia licensure as a Land Surveyor is preferred within one year.

Special Certifications And Licenses

Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . Requires Commonwealth of Virginia designation as a Surveyor in training ( SIT ) or the ability to obtain the Virginia SIT license within one year of hire. Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as a Land Surveyor is preferred within one year of hire.

Special Requirement(s)

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
