The Seattle City Attorney's Office seeks one or more Assistant City Prosecutors to join the Criminal Division. This role involves prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court, developing trial skills in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to policies promoting equity and accountability.
Candidates must be admitted to the Washington State Bar or eligible within 30 days; Rule 9 LLBs may apply.

The Criminal Division seeks one or more Assistant City Prosecutors to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to learn to manage a dynamic caseload and develop trial skills.
The Criminal Division represents the City in prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court, including driving under the influence, domestic violence, theft, assault, property damage, and trespassing. Prosecutors rotate through units dedicated to reviewing incident reports and filing cases, trials, and domestic violence cases. Opportunities also exist for prosecutors to work in therapeutic courts - Mental Health Court and Veterans Treatment Court. All prosecutors assist in formulating and implementing policies to promote racial and social justice equity, including developing potential alternatives to incarceration for criminal offenders.
This position requires membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, OR the ability to obtain membership within 30 days of an offer of employment, OR being a Rule 9 Licensed Legal Intern awaiting Washington State Bar Examination results. Continued employment for Rule 9 candidates is contingent on passing the Washington State Bar Examination and becoming a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association within six months of beginning employment.

– The full pay range for this step-progression position is $50.15/hr - $67.12/hr. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, $50.15 per hour. Current City employees' starting pay rate will be based on the Personnel Rules regarding promotions. Advanced initial step placement may be considered under limited circumstances, but step salaries are not subject to negotiation.
Individuals selected to fill this position may be eligible to receive Language Premium Pay (SMC 4.20.360), which provides a $200.00 monthly stipend to qualified bilingual employees who are properly evaluated and assigned to provide direct communication in-language, interpretation, or translation services to the public on behalf of the City of Seattle.
Currently, the Seattle City Attorney's Office has a Flexible Work Arrangements Policy. Employees have the option to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days remote). This is subject to change as circumstances and business needs dictate.
