Job summary

The City of Murray seeks an attorney to prepare and handle criminal prosecutions under the direction of the City Attorney and City Prosecutor. The role also assists in civil matters for the City as assigned. Recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must be admitted to the Utah Bar and have graduated from an accredited law school with a JD. The position includes broad criminal and civil duties and eligibility for public safety-related screenings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a JD degree.
• Must be a member of the Utah Bar Association at the time of appointment.
• Experience in criminal prosecutions and civil matters as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Performs criminal prosecution work; conducts legal research; handles appeals; appears in court to prosecute and dispose of criminal cases.
• Screens possible criminal prosecutions from police.
• Makes court appearances; prepares criminal cases for pre-trial and trial; prepares pleadings.
• Prepares ordinances; handles appeals to the State District and Appellate courts.
• Performs civil legal work as directed; supports City Attorney and City Prosecutor.

Salary: $3,491 - $5,296 bi-weekly DOE (typically hire at or near minimum)

Status: Exempt

Department: Attorney

General Description: Under the general supervision of the City Attorney and City Prosecutor, prepares and handles criminal prosecutions. Assists the City Attorney in civil matters for the City as assigned.

• Performs other related duties as required.
