The Assistant City Planner - Zoning position is responsible for assisting the City Planner in interpreting and administering the Zoning Ordinance, Site Plan Regulations, and Subdivision Regulations. The role includes analyzing applications for compliance with regulations, preparing detailed staff reports, and supporting planning and zoning activities. The role provides professional assistance in land use planning, zoning, and municipal facility design, serving as a point of contact for public and departmental inquiries, managing projects, and performing duties of the City Planner in their absence.
Planning Board: Reviews applications, coordinates reviews, prepares reports, and inspects properties during construction. Acts as Deputy Clerk of the Planning Board.
Zoning Board of Adjustment: Reviews applications, coordinates reviews, and ensures compliance with conditions of approval. Acts as a liaison and provides advisories to city personnel.
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, including supervisory roles, or equivalent combination.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver’s license; AICP certification preferred.
Knowledge of planning principles, land use law, civil engineering, GIS, and software tools. Skills include effective communication, research, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building.
Ability to analyze, operate under deadlines, communicate effectively, and perform outdoor and indoor tasks, including site inspections and working in various weather conditions.
