Job summary

Job description

The City of Flagstaff is seeking an experiencedCity Prosecutor to provide professional legal services in support of the City Prosecutor’s Office. This position prosecutes misdemeanor and City Code violation cases, represents the City in a variety of court proceedings, conducts legal research and prepares legal documents, and works closely with law enforcement, victims, defense counsel, and City staff.

The ideal candidate will bring strong legal knowledge, sound judgment, effective communication skills, and a commitment to public service while supporting the City’s mission and values.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduation from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree
• Member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona, or eligible for admission to practice law in Arizona through an approved admission process
• Two (2) years of experience practicing law

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

• Three (3) or more years of experience practicing law
• Experience in criminal prosecution
• Attendance of a minimum five (5) conferences on criminal prosecution presented by Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council (APAAC), or an equivalent, in the prior three (3) years
• Previous participation in community events that support law enforcement, criminal law and justice or similar

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• If not currently admitted to the State Bar of Arizona, must obtain admission to the State Bar of Arizona within six (6) months of hire.
• Must maintain membership in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona throughout employment.
• Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
