Job summary

YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking an Assistant Childcare Director for our Eastside YMCA location. The role focuses on managing day care and school‑age programs, ensuring safety and quality, and supporting staff and families in a community‑oriented environment.

The position includes engaging with families, maintaining regulatory compliance, and spending significant time in the classroom to guide activities and ensure smooth operations at the site.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
• Three or more years of related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
• Complete required trainings within 30 days of hire (Mandated Reporter, etc.) and OSHA safety trainings.
• PA Act 33/34 clearances and YMCA program certifications may be required.
• TB test negative; ADA compliance understood.
• Love for children and strong safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the day care and school age childcare programs at the assigned location.
• Ensure safety and high‑quality program standards and procedures.
• Develop strategies for children and support teachers in the classroom.
• Enroll new children and onboard parents into the YMCA program and maintain good rapport with families.
• Maintain relationships with licensing agencies, schools, parent groups, and other organizations.
• Spend a minimum of 15 hours per week in the classroom.
• Organize family events and ensure records comply with STARS, DHS, and YMCA standards.
