Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer for Data Center Facilities in Austin, TX. You will oversee facility operations, lead technical teams, and implement strategies to optimize reliability and efficiency of critical data center infrastructure.

You will coordinate maintenance, manage incidents, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. PE license is preferred and after‑hours support is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in data center operations and management.
• Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure including power distribution, cooling and network architecture.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute standards.
• Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Proficiency with facility management software and building automation systems.
• Proficiency with CMMS tools.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, technicians and contractors.
• Monitor critical systems performance (power, cooling, network).
• Develop preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Ensure safety, security and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in capacity planning and infra upgrade projects.
• Respond to incidents and manage emergencies.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and clients.
• Serve as first contact for service impacting electrical events.
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) and post‑incident reviews.
• Provide after‑hours support (24x7) for electrical distribution systems.

Job Description

As an Assistant Chief Engineer for Data Center Facilities at JLL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of mission-critical data center environments. You will work closely with the Chief Engineer to oversee facility operations, manage technical teams, and implement strategies to optimize performance, reliability, and efficiency of data center infrastructure.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

• Assisting in the management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance activities
• Supervising and mentoring technical staff, including engineers, technicians, and contractors
• Monitoring and analyzing critical systems performance, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure
• Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures
• Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements
• Participating in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrade projects
• Responding to and managing critical incidents and emergency situations
• Preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management and clients
• Being the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the electrical distribution system
• Assisting the team in troubleshooting and mitigating incidents
• Assisting in the creation of root cause analysis (RCAs)
• Being available for after‑hours support regarding the electrical distribution systems (24x7 responses)

Desired Experience and Technical Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations and management
• Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling systems, and network architecture
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute)
• Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
• Strong leadership and team management abilities
• Proficiency in using facility management software and building automation systems
• Proficiency in the use of Work Order Management Software (CMMS)
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred

• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience with energy efficiency initiatives and sustainable data center practices
• Knowledge of project management methodologies
• Multi‑site data center management experience
