JLL is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer in Amarillo, TX to lead a team of engineers responsible for safe, reliable operations at a hyperscale campus, ensuring 100% uptime and compliance with safety standards.
You will manage daily tasks from MOP development, preventive maintenance to incident response, coordinate with planners, and mentor staff while delivering exceptional service to clients and maintaining critical environments.
Qualifications
- 4+ years in building engineering with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and equipment maintenance.
- Experience in Data Centers/Raised Floor environments.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- EPA 608 Certification.
- Licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction.
- Proficient with Word/Excel and Google Suite.
- 2 years of trades schooling or apprenticeship.
- Valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of data center engineers to ensure 100% uptime.
- Oversee safety, hazard assessments and code compliance.
- Manage MOP creation and preventive maintenance coordination.
- Operate critical equipment including generators, HV/MV/LV switchgears, UPS, BESSUPS, PDU, ATS.
- Coordinate with planners and use OMs to train site teams.
- Handle incident management and after-hours support.
- Maintain Corrigo CMMS updates and SLA compliance.
- Participate in RCA processes and client communications.

This position is responsible for managing a team of data center engineers at a large hyperscale data center campus. The role focuses on ensuring safe and efficient operations, maintaining site equipment and maintaining 100% uptime. The right person will demonstrate expertise in one specific area while being multi‑skilled in others to successfully complete daily work assignments.
- Ensure your team is completing training as assigned.
- Manage day‑to‑day HR issues, escalating as necessary.
- Performance manage direct reports through the JLL Quality Conversations process.
- Maintain a schedule of sync meetings with direct reports.
- Discuss areas for improvement and areas where employees meet or exceed expectations.
- Write and deliver both the annual performance review and rating.
- Participate in performance rating calibration process.
- Participate in the hiring process.
- Ensure site has appropriate shift coverage to maintain all critical environment spaces.
- Complete hazard assessments as necessary.
- Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety work areas. Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.
- Maintain compliance with all local AHJ ordinance, codes, and laws.
- Complete all required safety training as scheduled.
- Oversee and implement the MOP creation process.
- Operate and maintain the critical equipment to ensure the campus achieves 100% uptime, while maintaining concurrently maintainable status.
- Coordinate with planner scheduler to complete all preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Utilize manufacturer operations manuals (O&Ms) to help create and implement training curricula for the site operations teams to include:
- Electrical distribution equipment such as: Emergency Generators, HV/MV/LV switchgears, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Battery Energy Storage Uninterruptible Power Supplies (BESSUPS), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), or any other needed systems.
- Mechanical plant equipment such as: Air Cooled Chiller plant, Fan Walls, Computer Room Air Conditioning/Handler (CRAC/CRAH), Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU), Direct Expansion Units (DX), Make‑up Air Units (MUA), Dedicated Outside Air Supply (DOAS), Exhaust fans, etc.
- Controls and Network systems: BMS and EPMS systems, internal networks, and system telemetry flows, BACNet and ModBus communications protocols.
- Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.
- Be the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the mechanical plant.
- Assist the team in troubleshooting and mitigating incidents.
- Assist in the creation of root‑cause analysis (RCAs).
- Participate in RCA presentations to the customer management team.
- Be available for after‑hours support regarding the mechanical plant. This includes 24x7 response.
- Utilize Corrigo (CMMS) for all work performed.
- Ensure prompt and accurate work order updates.
- Escalate any customer impacting incident’s in accordance with contract SLAs.
- Attend any work or safety meetings as required.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Working from heights.
- Frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.
- Working in adverse conditions (i.e., extreme cold, extreme hot).
- Driving for long periods of time.
- Climbing a ladder with a 300 lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
- Climbing a ladder up to 30 feet.
- 4+ years of technical experience in building engineering with a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment repair and maintenance.
- Experience working in Data Centers/Raised Floor Environment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Universal EPA 608 Certification.
- Licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel as well as Google Suite applications.
- 2 years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in relevant craft skills.
- Valid drivers license.
- Expertise in one specific craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, Material Handling Equipment).
- Familiarity with building automation systems and fire/life safety systems.
