Job summary

UCAR - The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder is seeking an Assistant Chef for the Mesa Lab Café. The role involves managing kitchen operations in the Chef’s absence, supervising staff, and assisting with food preparation and events.

The candidate should have a High School diploma or equivalent plus 3 years in food service, strong culinary skills, and the ability to work with a team and cash handling. Position is onsite with potential shifts for special events.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; and at least 3 years' experience in food service industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent culinary skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations.
• Ability to lead and work with a team in the Chef/Supervisor's absence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare all food items for soup or lunch selections and assist in preparation of other items.
• Oversee variety, wholesomeness and quality of food; handle perishables safely.
• May cashier or handle high-volume lunch service and maintain cash deposits and records.
• Lead daily café operations if supervisor is busy with events.
• Maintain cash reconciliation and monthly spreadsheet records.
