Job description

The Shenandoah University Spirit Squad is searching for an Assistant Cheer Team Coach. This is a one-year contract stipend position that is located on our main campus in Winchester, VA.

This position reports to the Director of Spirit Squad and the Head Cheer Team Coach. The Assistant Cheer Team Coach will assist the Head Cheer Team Coach in all aspects of the Shenandoah University Spirit Squad’s Cheer Team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coaching, recruitment, player development, and fundraising efforts for the program.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Spirit Squad, Head Cheer Team Coach, instructional staff, and student leadership to ensure that each student achieves success in a positive and constructive manner within a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Attendance at Cheer Camp, practices, team dinners, and performances.
  • Assist the Head Cheer Team Coach in all aspects of game and practice preparations, including but not limited to retention efforts and instruction of fundamental techniques.
  • Assist with coordinating team building/bonding activities.
  • Assist the Head Cheer Team Coach with coordinating and leading Cheer Team Tryouts in fall and spring.
  • Help maintain a physically safe practice environment and plan effective practices.
  • Assist with managing fundraising efforts for the Cheer Team.
  • Assist with managing equipment and communicate any needs for student success.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Spirit Squad and Head Cheer Team Coach.
