Job summary

Pebble Beach Company is seeking an Assistant Buyer to manage assigned merchandise categories within the Retail Division and across the Pebble Beach Shop portfolio. You will align categories to revenue and profitability goals while upholding Pebble Beach brand standards.

The role requires 5+ years of retail buying experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with Visual Merchandising, Warehouse and Shop teams.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of retail math concepts (markup, markdown, GM, OTB, inventory productivity).
• 5+ years of retail buying experience with proven success.
• Understanding of merchandise flow and transition.
• Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Ability to perform data entry in computer systems; proficient in MS Office.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute buy strategies for assigned categories and shops.
• Oversee product management including selection, pricing, forecasting/reorders, markdowns, and event/product development.
• Conduct financial/merchandise analysis and monitor shop-level OTB.
• Maintain vendor relations through cost negotiation, orders, stock planning and seasonal appointments.
• Collaborate with Visual Merchandising, Warehouse and Shop teams.
• Stay updated on market trends; attend tradeshows and industry events.

The Assistant Buyer will manage assigned merchandise categories within the Retail Division and portfolio of shops throughout Pebble Beach Resorts. Responsible for aligning assigned categories to the Pebble Beach Company’s revenue and profitability goals while maintaining the Pebble Beach brand standards.

• Develop and successfully execute buy strategies for assigned categories and shops.
• Overall product management which includes but is not limited to; selection and strategy, store planning and flow of product, pricing, forecasting/reorders, logo application & approvals, markdowns, special events and custom product development.
• Conduct financial/merchandise business analysis.
• Monitor shop level open-to-buy (OTB) and balance stock levels as needed.
• Maintain excellent vendor relations which includes efficient cost negotiation, order execution, stock level planning and seasonal market appointments.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate regularly with the Visual Merchandising, Warehouse and Shop teams.
• Stay on top of market trends as well as attend tradeshows and industry events.

Absolutely Required Skills:

• Knowledge of retail math acumen, including markup, markdown, gross margin, OTB, inventory productivity measures.
• 5+ years of retail buying experience with comparable volume/proven track record of success required.
• Understanding of merchandise flow and transition.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to perform data entry in various computer systems and Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Organizational and time management skills necessary.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with a luxury retailer or golf resort preferred.
