Responsibilities

  • Assist in vendor selection and nurturing vendor partnerships.
  • Monitor industry trends and assess competition.
  • Provide input for merchandise strategy and product selection.
  • Assist with setting up new merchandise in the item database.
  • Analyze style performance by season or delivery to identify best/worst sellers.
  • Coordinate and catalog merchandise samples.
  • Manage timely placement and maintenance of purchase orders.
  • Contribute to Retail Operating Forecast.
  • Assist in establishing pricing strategy.
  • Execute markdown projections and provide data for vendor allowances.
  • Participate in planning and approving advertising and promotions.
  • Offer feedback for space strategies (fixture/square footage).
  • Participate in training and development.
  • Support a team environment and engage in team activities.
  • Foster job satisfaction and positive morale.

An Assistant Buyer works with the Buyer to analyze sales and fashion trends and applies that knowledge to develop a product line for the next season. The ideal candidate is able to multitask and work independently or as a member of a team; possesses excellent time-management skills; is highly analytical and detail-oriented; demonstrates a sense of urgency when asked to perform a task or special project; possesses the ability to communicate effectively; and has a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field required.
  • 1-2 years of experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store preferred
