Job summary

The Tap Brewery in Bloomington, Indiana is seeking a Cellarman to support daily brewery operations, cleaning, sanitation, and yeast management. You will handle CIP and manual cleaning, operate keg washers, and assist with wort production and data recording.

  • Solid understanding of the brewing process from raw materials to final product.
  • Strong independent work ethic with drive and reliability.
  • Good verbal and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and maintain safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 45–175 lbs repeatedly.
  • Comfort with flexible schedule including weekends and nights.
  • Experience with brewery operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serving and CIP/manual sanitation; chemical handling and safety.
  • Familiarity with PPE and cleaning brewery hoses.
  • Transfer of finished beer between vessels and keg handling.
  • Operate keg washer and maintain draft system cleanliness.
  • Participate in beer festivals, events, and travel as needed.
  • Organize and clean cellar; proper data recording.
  • Maintain wort production, yeast pitching, and CIP in brewhouse.
  • Assist with materials receiving, storage, and inventory.
  • Use brewery software and report to Head Brewer.

Job description

Role and Responsibilities

The following list details the responsibilities of the Cellarman position within The Tap Brewery.

  • Serving and fermentation vessel cleaning and sanitation via CIP process and manual cleaning.
  • Chemical handling and safety (caustic/alkaline, nitric, sanitizer)
  • Familiarity with PPE.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing brewery hoses.
  • Beer carbonation and ability to use and read a beer carbonation tester.
  • Ability to transfer finished beer from one vessel to another.
  • Keg cleaning, sanitizing, and pressurizing.
  • Draft system cleaning and maintenance including all designated locations
  • Operation of keg washer.
  • Guest relations/Beer festivals and travel events
  • Special events
  • Organization and cleaning of cellar/brewery
  • Proper data recording.
  • Keg filling
  • Transportation of beer from brewery to other locations.
  • Yeast vessel cleaning and sanitation

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Standing for 8+ hour periods.
  • Ability to maneuver and function in small, cramped spaces.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas comfortably.
  • Complete understanding of the brewing process from raw materials to final product.
  • Very strong independent work ethic and drive.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and electronic.
  • Ability to follow company SOP’s.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 45-175 lbs repeatedly.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Be able to adapt to change quickly and think on their feet.
  • Troubleshooting problems quickly.
  • Computer skills: MS Office, Google Drive
  • Any other activity deemed necessary by the head brewer.
  • Flexible schedule (ability to work weekends and nights)
