Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools seeks an Assistant Boys Cross Country Coach to support our athletic program at Pioneer High School. This is a non-contractual, hourly position with duties assigned by the Athletic Director.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and preferred coaching experience; CPR/First Aid certification may be obtained as needed. The incumbent will work with coaching staff, athletes, and school staff within district policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of high school coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about the rules and fundamental techniques of the sport.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with MHSA A.A. policies and department/district policies.
  • Maintains consistent communication with Athletic Director.
  • Develop positive self image with athletics.
  • Attend clinics/workshops related to sport.
  • Utilize sound teaching methods to develop skills/techniques.
  • Demonstrate public support/loyalty for coaches.
  • Demonstrate positive team sportsmanship toward opponents and officials.
  • Demonstrates effective management of pre-contest details.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

NON-CONTRACTUAL (HOURLY) STAFF HIRED WILL BECOME AN EMPLOYEE OF PCMI (THIRD PARTY ADMINISTRATOR).

CURRENT CONTRACT STAFF WILL REMAIN ON PAYROLL WITH AAPS.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Boys Cross Country Coach

POSITION LOCATION: Pioneer High School

SALARY: Depending on Experience

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports directly to the Athletic Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of high school coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about the rules and fundamental techniques required of the sport.
  • Ability to obtain current CPR / First Aid/ Lifeguard Certification when applicable.
  • Ability to work effectively with sport coaching staff parents and school staff.
  • Minimum of 2 years coaching preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee must be able to communicate to the team in order to give directions.
