Job summary

Harrisonburg City Public Schools, Skyline Middle School, is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach to support the head coach and the athletic program. The role requires a high school diploma, preferably Virginia teaching certification or HCPS substitute status, and ongoing VHSL coaching education including CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities include assisting in program planning, supervising athletes, and coordinating with the DSA and principal on duties and communications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Virginia teaching certificate (preferred) or substitute status.
• VHSL Coaches Education, CPR and First Aid are required.
• Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Experience coaching or participating in sport is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn and adhere to the coaching philosophy and program of the head coach.
• Attend the rules interpretation meetings of the State High School League.
• Develop continuity between community and school programs.
• Provide leadership for all levels (9th, 10th, JV, Varsity).
• Ensure athletes are certified by the Activities Office to participate.
• Supervise program facilities and activities (locker rooms, practices, events, buses).
• Represent the school professionally in demeanor and conduct.
• Teach safe procedures to athletes and conduct out-of-season training.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Virginia Teaching Certificate (preferred) or HCPS substitute

VHSL Coaches Education, CPR, First Aid

Maintain CPR and First Aid certification

Experience in sport as participant and/or coach
