Kanawha County Public Schools Dunbar Middle in Dunbar, WV seeks an Assistant Boys Basketball coach for the 2026-2027 school year. The role requires WV teaching certification or WVDE permit or substitute permit, a high school diploma or GED, and WVSSAC certification.

The coach will lead practices, mentor players, and ensure compliance with WVSSAC rules. Responsibilities include coordinating with the principal and athletic director, building staff rapport, and managing scheduling, budget, and game

Qualifications

Must hold WV teaching certification or WVDE teaching permit or substitute permit.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
WVSSAC certification is required.

Responsibilities

Coaches and manages the basketball program with professional and interpersonal relations.
Cooperates with the building principal and athletic director.
Develops rapport with coaching staff and organizes the coaching staff.
Provides guidance to participants, student body, faculty, parents, community, officials, and media.
Ensures appropriate conduct during practices and games.
Attends league, conference, and WVSSAC meetings.
Manages budget and follows purchasing procedures.
Initiates game organization and pre-season planning.
Completes WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and concussion awareness courses.
