Overview

As an Assistant Behavior Specialist, you'll enhance care quality in day services by assisting and training staff on behavioral supports and best practices.

What Your Role Will Do

  • Deliver hands-on training to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) on-site, observe service delivery, and meet regularly with staff to review individual support plans.
  • Provide coaching and follow-up training to ensure consistent implementation and accurate documentation of supports and interventions.
  • Conduct monthly in-service trainings for support staff on topics such as maintaining therapeutic environments, proactive engagement strategies, advocacy, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Offer crisis intervention services and train staff in managing challenging behaviors and responding to behavioral emergencies effectively and safely.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, including annual, semi-annual, and weekly sessions.
  • Provide therapeutic support and counseling following incidents for participants in Day Habilitation, SEMP, and Pre-Vocational programs.
  • Attend weekly administrative team meetings for Day Habilitation and/or Pre-Vocational services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, School Psychology, Applied Psychology, or a related clinical or treatment field.
  • At least one year of direct experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Formal training in behavioral assessment, development of behavior support plans, and implementation of behavior interventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between program sites in Westbury and Hicksville.

Work Location: Westbury and Hicksville, NY (Nassau County)

Work Hours/Schedule: Part-time, day hours with flexible scheduling options.

Pay: $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
