Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care services and counseling per individual treatment plan.

About the Position:

YAI has an opening for an Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist. YAI promotes a person-centered approach by creating supports that cater to the specific needs of each person. Join our dynamic teamteaching daily and independent living skills, providing individual and group counseling, and promotingcommunity integration. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectualand developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such asassisting with showering, toileting, grooming, laundry and housekeeping as necessary. ABIS works directly with people in their home, work, and daily life in varying capacities. An ABIS must havepreviously worked as a DSP, completed all the required trainings and demonstrated all the knowledge,skills and accountabilities of a Direct Service Professional Level three. The Asst. BIS position blends together the DSP role and the clinical leadership role. Clinical leadership under the supervision of the BIS includes educating team members on habilitative and Behavior SupportPlans, assisting with clinical assessments, ensuring data collection and providing direct feedback andeducation to all team members.

Key responsibilities:

• To provide direct care services as needed. This includes, but not limited to, the provision of directcounseling, implementation of each individual’s treatment plan, training in ADL skills, assistancewith personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and otherneeds within the program.

• To train staff, which includes, but is not limited to, using the EMOE training system to ensure thatall clinical interventions are properly implemented, to communicate clinical rationales to the staff,to provide staff with both formal and informal feedback, and role model at all times appropriatetone, implementing of habilitative and behavioral programming, and appropriate data collectiontechniques

• Role Model use of person-centered philosophy and use of person-centered tools

• To develop written, individualized habilitative plans in accordance with the agency philosophy, asdetermined by individual need.

• To conduct assessments – both behavioral and habilitative via formal means (writtenquestionnaires, rating scales, baseline data, etc.) and informal (observations), under thesupervision of the BIS.

• To design effective data collection systems that allows progress to be monitored. To monitor thedata collection, ensure that the data is totaled and summarized on a monthly basis and that newdata sheets are accessible to staff at the beginning of each month.

• To oversee/maintain the completion of all required paperwork, including monthlies, Person Centered materials, and ensure that all pertinent information is included on psychiatricanecdotals.

• To provide the appropriate therapeutically documented level of an individual’s supervision toensure and protect the individual’s health/safety and well-being. Whenever this level is unclear orunknown, to provide the maximum level of supervision to assure and protect the individual’shealth and safety.

• Train new staff on Level 1 competencies

• Resource to staff by providing clinical support in absence of the BIS/Supervisor

• Lead trainer of weekend staff on clinical interventions

Education and Experience:

• BA/BS Degree in Psychology or Human Services strongly preferred or

• Enrolled in 4-year degree in Psychology or Human Services field

• Experience working within the field of ID/DD preferred

• Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills

• Experience in computer skills and ability to teach others

• College level writing ability.

Compensation:

$23.10/hour - $23.10/hour
