Job summary

Bunker Hill Community College in Boston seeks an Assistant Baseball Coach to support the Head Baseball Coach in operating a NJCAA program that emphasizes academic excellence, student development, and competitive success.

The role requires a minimum of three years coaching experience at various levels, strong baseball knowledge, and the ability to lead with integrity. Evening and weekend commitments are expected as part of the athletic schedule.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of baseball techniques, training methods, rules, and player development.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the baseball schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and retain eligible student-athletes in accordance with NJCAA and institutional guidelines.
  • Assist the Head Coach in meeting roster goals established by the Director of Athletics and NJCAA guidelines.
  • Assist with planning and conducting practices, skill development sessions, conditioning, and game preparation.
  • Provide instruction in baseball fundamentals, including hitting, pitching, throwing, fielding, base running, catching, and position-specific skills.
  • Assist with developing offensive and defensive strategies, game plans, and player development plans.
  • Assist with scouting opponents, evaluating student-athletes, and preparing game strategies.
  • Assist with pitching development, defensive positioning, offensive execution, and situational baseball.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Foster a positive team culture built on sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and respect.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, faculty, staff, and the campus community.
  • Promote high academic standards and support student-athlete success through class attendance, academic persistence, retention, and graduation.
  • Monitor and manage student-athlete conduct during practices, competitions, team travel, and campus events.
  • Attend BHCC athletic events, admissions events, recruiting activities, and other College functions as assigned.
  • Support compliance with NJCAA, institutional, and conference rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties related to the baseball program as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.

Season Practice / Start Date: February 2027

The Assistant Baseball Coach will support the Head Baseball Coach in all aspects of operating a successful NJCAA baseball program while promoting academic excellence, student development, and competitive success.

  • Attend BHCC athletic events, admissions events, recruiting activities, and other College functions as assigned.
  • Support compliance with NJCAA, institutional, and conference rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties related to the baseball program as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level required.
  • Previous experience coaching baseball preferred.
  • Previous collegiate or professional baseball playing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of baseball techniques, training methods, rules, strategy, and player development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the baseball schedule.
  • Current CPR/AED certification required or ability to obtain before the start of employment.
  • Valid driver's license required and willingness to provide van transportation for student-athletes to competitions and team activities.
Additional Information:

Salary: $2,000-$2,400 (depending on experience)

Pay Schedule: Compensation will be paid in 4-8 installments.
