ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate is responsible for the following duties, in addition to other tasks as assigned:
- Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive, customer-focused behavior among associates. Greets customers with a smile, answers questions, and resolves issues promptly and professionally. Strives for continuous improvement in all department areas.
- Processes customer orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant attitude. Determines customer needs regarding size, flavor, and appearance, and creates decorated products efficiently.
- Decorates cakes and bakery products using dyes, specific or custom designs, and utilizes various creams, frostings, and fillings to ensure consistent quality. Prepares icing according to company recipes.
- Assists the Bakery Manager with daily operations such as merchandising, advertising, associate engagement, and customer service. Acts as Bakery Manager in their absence.
- Manages inventory by monitoring sales reports, ordering products, and ensuring successful physical counts at period-end.
- Supports scheduling, training, and performance recognition for bakery staff. Delegates tasks effectively to maximize department profits and utilizes the Learning Management System for training new associates.
- Develops merchandising plans aligning with financial goals. Ensures correct pricing and production based on weekly ads and specials. Maintains knowledge of merchandise and enforces production logs.
- Verifies deliveries and invoices for accuracy. Assists with unloading, restocking, and ensuring product quality and freshness through proper rotation and handling.
- Controls costs by improving operational efficiency, managing labor, and minimizing losses from damages or spoilage. Ensures adherence to recipes and maintains product logs.
- Maintains a well-stocked, attractive bakery department. Provides friendly customer service, makes product suggestions, and addresses customer concerns promptly.
- Ensures product freshness, proper pricing, and signage. Handles spoilage and damaged goods following company procedures.
- May participate in baking breads, pastries, and other goods, adhering to production logs and recipes.
- Supports a smooth workflow by collaborating with team members and striving for continual job performance improvement.
- Utilizes all provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately, including gloves, safety cutters, and footwear.
- May assist in other departments as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises department associates alongside or in the absence of the department manager.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily, with or without accommodations. Requirements include:
- High School diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business or food service preferred.
- At least 2 years of management experience in retail, restaurant, or supermarket environments.
- Previous decorating experience is preferred.
