Job summary

The Illinois Attorney General's Office, Child Support Enforcement Division, seeks an Assistant Attorney General for its Peoria office to handle child support enforcement cases and related litigation across central/southern Illinois. A strong candidate will enjoy courtroom work and managing a high volume of cases.

Attorneys represent state agencies, argue in court several times a week, prepare pleadings, and conduct hearings when settlements are not reached. Illinois license required.

Qualifications

• Excellent litigation and negotiation skills.
• Superior interpersonal skills for working with court officials and families.
• Willingness to travel to various counties in Illinois.
• Licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application.

Responsibilities

• Handle child support enforcement cases and related litigation in central/southern Illinois.
• Represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services.
• Appear in court several times a week and manage a high volume of cases.
• Prepare pleadings, responses to motions, and conduct hearings when settlements are not reached.
• Research legal issues and assist with various lien and recovery matters.
