Job summary

The State of Ohio, Office of the Attorney General, invites applications for Assistant Attorney General - Education Section in Columbus. The role involves representing Ohio’s public colleges and universities and state agencies in federal and state court, and in administrative hearings.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience as an attorney and may have federal court experience. This is a full-time, hybrid in-person/remote position based in Columbus with standard hours

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio (Bar admission required).
• Minimum of 5 years as an attorney.
• Federal Court experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent client agencies in federal and state court and in administrative hearings.
• Provide legal advice to public colleges, universities, and state agencies on a range of issues.
• Assist with policy, governance, employment issues, and transactional matters.

Job Description

The Education Section represents Ohio’s 36 public colleges and universities and several state agencies including the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, the State Board of Education of Ohio, and the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The Section’s attorneys represent client agencies in federal court, state court, and in administrative hearings. The attorneys also provide legal advice to public colleges and universities and state agencies on a variety of legal issues including, but not limited to, legal compliance, student affairs, college governance, policy, employment issues, health care, transactional matters, public relations, public records and open meetings, and administrative procedures. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working as an attorney and preferably will have experience in federal court. This position requires a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is our Columbus, Ohio office.

Qualifications

Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code; At least 5 years of experience working as an attorney; and Federal Court experience, preferred.
