The Ohio Attorney General's Office in Columbus, OH seeks an experienced attorney to join its Education Section. The successful candidate will represent client agencies in federal and state courts and provide legal counsel on employment, policy, governance, and compliance matters.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years' experience as an attorney, with Federal Court experience preferred. The position offers a hybrid in-person/remote schedule.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • At least 5 years of experience working as an attorney; and Federal Court Experience, Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent client agencies in federal court, state court, and administrative hearings.
  • Provide legal advice to public colleges and state agencies on matters including compliance, student affairs, governance, policy, employment issues, health care, and transactional matters.
  • Collaborate with agency staff and other divisions to ensure accurate and timely legal outcomes.

Job description

The Education Section represents Ohio's 36 public colleges and universities and several state agencies including the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, the State Board of Education of Ohio, and the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The Section's attorneys represent client agencies in federal court, state court, and in administrative hearings. The attorneys also provide legal advice to public colleges and universities and state agencies on a variety of legal issues including, but not limited to, legal compliance, student affairs, college governance, policy, employment issues, health care, transactional matters, public relations, public records and open meetings, and administrative procedures. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working as an attorney and preferably will have experience in federal court. This position requires a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is our Columbus, Ohio office.

Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code;

At least 5 years of experience working as an attorney; and

Federal Court Experience, Preferred.
