Job Duties
  • Responsibilities include representing the Commonwealth in criminal appeals in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia.
  • In addition, this attorney will handle habeas corpus and other post-trial litigation at all judicial levels in both state and federal courts.
  • Some overnight travel will be required.
  • Duties also include advice and assistance on other matters related to criminal law and procedure, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly.
Minimum Qualifications
  • The candidate should have a good academic record, as well as demonstrated excellent legal writing, research and oral communication skills, and possess superior analytical ability, objectivity and maturity of judgment.
  • At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney is required and one to three years of judicial law clerk, trial or appellate experience is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission.
