Summary and relationship to the curriculum
This position supports treatment for minor student injuries, administers medication, and assists with preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitation treatments. Treatment includes care during the school day, games/practices, and development of treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes according to physicians’ instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides on-site medical treatment for minor injuries and rehabilitation for students, communicating with parents, district employees, and physicians regarding treatment or rehabilitation for injuries.
- Evaluates and diagnoses athletic injuries within the scope of an athletic trainer, following relevant legal and professional standards.
- Manages documentation and records related to student athletes and athletic injuries.
- Recommends medical treatment for student athletes, including determining when an injured athlete can return to play.
- Coordinates emergency care and transportation of student athletes to medical facilities, as needed.
- Assists in managing the athletic training budget, inventory, and maintenance of training room equipment.
- Participates in pre-participation sports physicals.
- Responds to emergency situations, effectively communicating conditions to school and emergency medical personnel.
- Adheres to medication guidelines and assists students in taking daily medication, as needed.
- Builds positive relationships and utilizes district resources to support students' social and emotional growth.
- Provides a safe, well-managed, and orderly environment conducive to learning.
- Performs duties in accordance with laws, ethical standards, and policies.
- Attends and participates in meetings, leading activities as requested.
- Works with Human Resources to establish safety procedures for district employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- One assistant athletic trainer will serve as Lead Athletic Trainer, with additional responsibilities such as supervising other trainers, collaborating with district leaders, and ensuring compliance with reporting and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or higher in Athletic Training or a related field.
- License: Georgia Athletic Training license required; NATA certification preferred.
- Skills: Effective communication, technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, ability to work with diverse populations, and strong organizational skills.
- Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, lift up to 75 pounds, and perform physical tasks regularly.
