Summary of Duties:
As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will be responsible for evaluating injuries and developing treatment and exercise plans within the scope of practice according to NYS Law, and re-evaluating treatment plans, as needed, to ensure maximum patient benefit. You will work in conjunction with the Athletic Trainer and coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
- Implementindividualized therapeutic interventions and monitor responses to therapy to ensure student safety; report progress and medical changes to the Director of Health Services, School Medical Director, and Athletic Trainer.
- Educate athletes, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs.
- Maintain all required documentation per professional and regulatory standards; maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments, and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a provider.
- Follow appropriate general treatment orders, as developed by the Athletic Trainer, and approved by the Director of Health Services and School Medical Director.
- Provide the coaches, Athletic Director, and athletic trainer with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under conference and state rules and regulations, when requested.
- A ssist the Director of Health Services and Athletic Trainer in arranging or providing follow-up care for Athletes.
- Follow all Concussion Return to Play (RTP) protocols. This includes conducting assessments, completing documentation, and communicating with Coaches all on a daily basis. Assistthe Athletic Trainer with overseeing that the RTP guidelines are being followed by both Athletes and Coaches, reporting any deviations or deficiencies to the Director of Health Services. Conduct preseason assessments of all students in competitive sports to establish a baseline as a part of the concussion RTP policy.
- Help to maintain the Athletic Training Office, ensuring it is clean, neat, and organized at all times. Equipment should be checked and kept in good working condition. Supplies should be maintained at appropriate levels of stock.
- M aintain the privacy and confidentiality of all Athletes to whom you provide healthcare services. This includes maintaining a separate waiting, consultation, and treatment area. This includes keeping a record of all Athletes that you care for daily.
- Keep regular office hours to ensure Athletes can seek out Athletic Training Services. This availability should occur so that Athletes can be seen for Athletic Training Services before and after both practices and games. Your schedule will be determined by the Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director in consultation with the Director of Health Services to ensure availability at all home games and practices.
- Follow all School Policies applicable to your position to include, but not limited to: the Employee and Health Services Handbooks, Health Services Standing Orders, Policies, Procedures, and Protocols.
- Clinical practice will be supervised by the Athletic Trainer and School Medical Director.
Requirements for this position include:
- Valid New York State Athletic Trainer License preferred, but will consider EMT applicants based upon specialized experience
- A minimum of two years of sports medicine experience preferred, but not required
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required
- Valid Drivers license
- Knowledge of current principles and practices of standards of care
- Knowledge of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogen standards and operational procedures
- Experience in emergency medical care and sports injuries
- Ability to relate and provide healthcare for boys and girls ages 13- 20
- Computer skills and the ability to use electronic health records will be trained
- Ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality
