Summary and Relationship to the Curriculum
This position supports treatment for minor student injuries, administers medication, and assists with preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitation treatments. Treatment includes care during the school day, games/practices, and development of treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes according to physicians’ instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides on-site medical treatment for minor injuries and rehabilitation for students; communicates with parents, district employees, and physicians regarding treatment or rehabilitation for injuries.
- Evaluates and diagnoses athletic injuries for students within the scope of an athletic trainer, following relevant state codes; performs prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, or rehabilitation of athletic injuries, including the use of physical modalities.
- Manages documentation and records related to student athletes and injuries.
- Recommends medical treatment for student athletes, including determining when an injured athlete can return to play.
- Coordinates emergency care and transportation of student athletes to medical facilities as needed.
- Assists in managing the athletic training budget, inventory, and maintenance of training room equipment.
- Participates in pre-participation sports physicals.
- Responds to emergency situations and communicates conditions effectively to school and medical personnel.
- Adheres to medication guidelines and assists students with daily medication as needed.
- Builds positive relationships and utilizes district resources to promote students’ social and emotional growth.
- Provides a safe, well-managed, and orderly environment conducive to learning.
- Performs duties in accordance with laws, ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
- Attends meetings and leads activities as assigned.
- Collaborates with Human Resources to establish safety procedures for district employees.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
- One assistant athletic trainer will serve as Lead Athletic Trainer, providing supervision, guidance, and training for other trainers, and ensuring program success and compliance.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Athletic Training or related field.
- Licenses and Certifications: Georgia Athletic Training license; NATA certification preferred.
- Skills: Effective communication, technical proficiency with Microsoft Office, data analysis, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, lift up to 75 pounds, and crouch or kneel occasionally.
- Work Environment: Exposure to outdoor elements and moderate noise levels; frequent travel.
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
