Job summary

Cal State Fullerton is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to join the University’s Sports Medicine program and provide care for student‑athletes.

The role reports to the Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, with 20–30% travel and involvement across assigned teams and programs as needed. A Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and current licensure are required, with strong clinical skills and knowledge of NCAA regulations, OSHA, and HIPAA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.
  • Knowledge of athletic training principles: conditioning, injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic modalities, including taping, bracing, and massage.
  • Proficiency in using rehabilitation and exercise equipment.
  • Understanding of NCAA regulations, OSHA standards, HIPAA, and medical record requirements.
  • Ability to assess injuries, develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs, and determine appropriate referrals.
  • Emergency care skills and ability to administer life‑threatening aid.
  • Computer skills for record‑keeping and insurance functions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; leadership, organizational, and administrative abilities.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

The Athletics department strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF). We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in the Assistant Athletic Trainer (Athletic Trainer II) role.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in a high school, collegiate, or professional setting.
  • Broad knowledge of medical problems and strong assessment and collaborative skills.
  • Critical thinking and independent decision‑making regarding treatment and return‑to‑play per state guidelines.
  • Detail‑oriented injury tracking, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask with minimal supervision.
License/Certifications
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainer.
