Description

The Assistant Athletic Trainer position at Ransom Everglades School is a ten-month full-time role focused on supporting the Department's Sports Medicine Program. Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer and in collaboration with coaches, athletes, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective training and rehabilitation programs, the Assistant Athletic Trainer ensures the health and safety of student-athletes at Ransom Everglades high school and middle school campuses. This position performs athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, treatment, rehabilitation, making necessary referrals, and follow-up care. The role requires a commitment to excellence in service delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Treat athletic injuries, including prevention, assessment, treatment, and reconditioning.
  • Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Assist with athletic training covering multiple sports with athletes ranging from middle school to high school athletes.
  • Provide medical coverage for all home events and practices as directed; arrange emergency care according to the emergency action plan.
  • Apply protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
  • Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
  • Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
  • Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
  • Adhere to and enforce policies, procedures, and ethic codes of the Athletics Department and School, as well as the rules and regulations of the respective conferences and the FHSAA.
  • Supervise athletic training clinical and work-study students in the athletic training room.
  • Provide Mental Health first aid.
  • Evaluate, implement, and supervise concussion protocol.
  • Ensure that assigned primary sport student-athletes have received proper medical clearance at the beginning of each academic year through completion of appropriate annual medical forms.
  • Work in conjunction with the Head Athletic Trainer to manage the sports medicine inventory of equipment and supplies; oversee the maintenance of all equipment and ensure that it is in good working order.
  • Collect and date entry of all required medical forms in the EMR system.
  • Oversee and direct on-campus physical therapy for student-athletes and coordinate with an outside physical therapy clinic for long-term and chronic injuries.
  • Organize, maintain, and make certain that the sports medicine office is always sanitary and in good working order.
  • Travel with assigned teams.
  • Attend and participate in all departmental training, conferences, and meetings related to duties and responsibilities.
  • Follow all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from CAATE accredited College or university in Athletic Training.
  • Minimum of two years of professional work experience in Athletic Training or a similar field.
  • CPR/First Aid and AED certification.
  • Certification in good standing with the Athletic Training Board of Certification.
  • Licensed with the Florida Athletic Training Board of Medical Examiners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • CPR/First Aid and AED instructor.
  • Professional work experience in Athletic Training in a secondary school setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of sports medicine practices and protocols.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40lbs.
  • Must be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time.
  • Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields, etc.
