Job summary

California State University Long Beach (Long Beach State Athletics) is seeking an Athletic Trainer I to support student-athlete health care. The role focuses on prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for student athletes and visiting teams.

The incumbent will provide clinical services in a professional setting, assist in supervising athletic training students, and contribute to a positive, compliant athletic training program during home games and travels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field is required.
  • Master's degree in athletic training or related field is preferred.
  • Athletic training certification in good standing by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Cover home events (games and practices) and travel with assigned team(s).
  • Injury evaluation, treatment, and first-aid care.
  • Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for injuries or post-surgical conditions; maintain medical records for each athlete.
  • Administrative duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer; manage inventory records and insurance processing.

Job Summary

To assist the athletic training staff in providing the best possible medical care for the student-athletes and visiting athletic teams. Including care, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries to our student athletes without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation or gender. Emphasis is placed on prevention such as taping, protective equipment, flexibility training. Additionally the incumbent will provide a professional clinical setting for Long Beach State students interested in pursuing a career in athletic training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cover home events (games and practices) and travel with assigned team(s).
  • Injury evaluation, treatment, and first-aid care.
  • Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for serious injuries or post-surgical conditions. Keep and maintain medical records for each athlete or sport, including date of injury, evaluation of injury, treatment or rehabilitation protocol and progress report.
  • Administrative duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer – in charge of inventory records, student athlete physicals, or insurance processing.
  • Assist in supervision of athletic training students in the training room and at the practice or competition facility.
Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,482 (Step #1) - $6,530(Step #20) per month.

Computer skills: MS Office and medical tracking software. Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols to provide a standardized care for the student-athlete. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a “vision of excellence.”

Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study is required.
  • Master's degree in athletic training or a related field preferred.
Licenses / Certificates
  • Athletic training certification in good standing by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification.
  • Valid California driver's license is highly preferred to accommodate the need for additional drivers during team travel and to transport student-athletes to doctor appointments.
Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
