Position Summary:

The Assistant Athletics Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer. This position assists in all aspects of the Sports Medicine Department. It oversees the health and safety of student-athletes of assigned teams, with specific teams determined by the Head Athletic Trainer. Responsibilities also include inventory tracking, pre-season medical clearance, and maintaining the athletics training room.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain the Sports Medicine Department, including injury care and prevention, injury evaluation and management, and education of student-athletes and coaches.
  2. Maintain accurate medical documentation for student-athletes.
  3. Ensure proper injury and treatment tracking of student-athletes.
  4. Establish and maintain good communication with team physicians (Orthopedic and Sports Medicine).
  5. Contribute to the growth of the department by bringing new ideas about Nutrition, Cardiac Health, Mental Wellness, Concussion research, etc. to the Sports Medicine staff.
  6. Assist in managing the daily operations of the athletics training room.
  7. Provide proper coverage during athletic participation, including practice and game coverage for assigned teams, both home and away.
  8. Assist with insurance claim filing processes as needed.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
  10. Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Two years of experience in the athletic training profession
  • AED/CPR Certified (Professional Rescuer)
  • Error-free written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • Two years of experience working in Division I or Division II collegiate athletics
  • Knowledge of SportsWare injury tracking system
  • Experience maintaining files and documentation
  • Experience with insurance claims and filing processes
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
Schedule Information

Full-time, 40 hours/week, Exempt. Days: Mon-Fri. Evenings and weekends as needed. Hybrid schedule. Travel required.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $48,000-$54,000. Paid monthly. Eligible for MSU Denver benefits, including health, vision, dental, tuition reimbursement, insurance plans, retirement, and more. For details, visit the benefits website.
