Job summary

Pepperdine University is seeking a Director of Academic Support for the Athletics Department to lead day-to-day operations including supervising academic coordinators, tutoring, and mentoring programs, and athlete development initiatives.

  • Serve as academic advisor for assigned sports, including Men's Basketball.
  • Supervise full-time staff and student workers; serve as sport administrator.
  • Uphold University mission; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Direct and implement the day-to-day operations of the Pepperdine Athletic Department’s academic support program including oversight of full-time academic coordinators, tutoring and mentoring program, and student-athlete development/leadership programming; oversee academic advising program for designated teams.

Duties
  • Advise and monitor satisfactory progress of student-athletes according to Pepperdine, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Includes evaluation and certification of transfer and continuing eligibility and data collection for APR, GSR and Federal Graduation rate.
  • Oversee Academic Support and Student-Athlete Leadership Development day to day operations. Includes development and management of athletic department academic policies, management of Teamworks Academics and supervising tutoring and mentoring program.
  • Create, manage and deliver student-athlete development focused programming leadership curriculum, career development and life skills along with Director of Academic Support and Student-Athlete Development. Includes SAAC and other department initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison with faculty and maintain contact with coaching and administrative staff.
  • Serve as academic advisor for assigned sports, including Men's Basketball.
  • Oversee full-time staff and student-workers.
  • Serve as sport administrator for assigned sport(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience in academic support with student-athletes.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity for both staff and student-workers.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with various personality types.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a collaborative environment, and a high level of professionalism in all situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps required.
Preferred:
  • NCAA Division I experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules.
  • Experience working with at-risk student population and basketball student-athletes.
  • Former student-athlete experience.
  • Experience implementing programming in the areas of leadership training, career development and/or life skills.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Teamworks software.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range:$79,000 - $82,742 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
