Position Overview

St. Joseph Catholic School is a faith-filled community committed to academic and athletic excellence, grounded in spiritual formation. We are seeking a mission-driven educator and program coordinator to serve as Assistant Athletic Director.

The ideal candidate fosters structured, positive programs that support students’ growth and athletic development—forming well-rounded young adults intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. This critical position contributes to a strong athletic program that promotes grit, resilience, health, skill, and safety. The role includes shared decision-making aligned with school policies and Catholic values.

Ministerial Character

The pastor and the Head of School are the visible foundation of the school which the Bishop has entrusted to the pastor and Head of School. Together with the pastor, the Head of School makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the school. In order to fulfill this mission, the Head of School employs suitable, chosen collaborators. The Head of School shares with them Christ's mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed in the school help to extend the ministry of the pastor and the Head of School in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the pastor and the Head of School in the performance of their ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Essential Duties

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive athletic program for students
  • Provides for the safety and well-being of student athletes by implementing safety guidelines and training of coaches and students
  • Plans secondary wide strength and conditioning programs for all athletes
  • Ensures Junior High contests are scheduled and confirmed.
  • Maintains athletic inventory
  • Helps maintain the school’s athletic calendar in coordination with the master school calendar
  • Attends and supervises on-campus athletic competitions, and ensures supervision of off-campus events
  • Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Communicates efficiently regarding registration, team assignments, schedules, and participation requirements
  • Communicates with administration/faculty regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym use
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support program planning
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Serves as a liaison to the Booster Club and advises regarding their activities, rules, and regulations
  • Help coordinate volunteers for home events
  • Ensure ticket sales and all concessions are properly schedule and filled
  • Keeps abreast of current athletic and safety information through membership in relevant associations
  • Participates in school-wide activities, including liturgical or prayer services

Important Job Functions

  • Able to instruct athletes about proper strategy, skills and rules of the sport
  • Able to motivate student athletes to perform optimally as an individual athlete and team member
  • Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
  • Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Builds positive communication in all respects

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) compliant

Experience

  • Previous coaching (5-10 years) or administrative experience preferred

  • May be combined with a teaching position for the 2025-26 school year
