Job summary

Joliet Junior College is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director to support the Director of Athletics in Joliet. The role focuses on leadership, day-to-day operations, and championing student success, equity, and holistic development for student-athletes.

The position involves coordinating transportation, facilities, and game-day logistics, while ensuring compliance with institutional policies. A bachelor’s degree and college athletic department experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, sports management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a college athletic department.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Management experience directing and supervising the work of others.
  • Marketing experience in promotion of athletic programs.
  • Ability to build effective professional relationships with students and staff and work with a diverse population.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, financial management, oral and written communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coordination, and administrative support to the Director of Athletics and the Athletic Department.
  • Assist in executing departmental priorities, strategic initiatives, and daily operations to ensure efficiency, compliance, and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Serve as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders, facilitating communication and supporting a student-centered athletic environment.
  • Oversee transportation needs for athletic teams, including coordination of rental vehicles and fleet usage.
  • Track, document, and report transportation expenses for travel, ensuring cost-efficiency and compliance.
  • Ensure departmental vehicles are inspected, serviced, and compliant with safety regulations; supervise staff operating them.
  • Oversee scheduling and coordination of athletic facilities for internal and external use.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor contractual agreements for facility rentals.
  • Coordinate comprehensive game-day schedules, including facility preparation, timelines, and staffing plans.
  • Represent the Athletic Department at home and away events; oversee operations and student-athlete support during events.
  • Support community engagement and partnership development to enhance visibility and impact of the Athletic Department.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to athletics administration.
  • Possibility to serve in a coaching role based on performance and approval by the Director of Athletics.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee scheduling and coordination of athletic facilities for internal and external use, ensuring equitable allocation and minimizing scheduling conflicts.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor contractual agreements for internal and external facility rentals, ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
  • Coordinate comprehensive game‑day schedules, including facility preparation, event timelines, and staffing plans.
  • Represent the Athletic Department at home and away events, assisting the Director of Athletics as assigned; oversee operations and student‑athlete support during events.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, sports management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a college athletic department.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education experience, preferably college level.
  • Successful coaching experience at the collegiate or comparable level.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Physical Demands
  • Normal office physical demands.
  • Ability to travel between campus locations and to community events, both in state and nationally.
  • Physical activity, including standing, walking, running, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Close vision requirements.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and dragging of approximately 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
  • Duties performed indoors and outdoors daily, as weather conditions permit.
  • Noise level moderate to loud in the athletics environment.
