Salary: $105,000 to $220,000 per year

The Department of Health Sciences Education and Pathology is seeking a Physiologist to join our teaching faculty.

The primary focus for this position is teaching general and systems physiology within the Illinois Medicine Curriculum for undergraduate medical education. The curriculum integrates basic, clinical, and social sciences throughout all phases, including block design in years 1 and 2, and clinical years with electives for integration.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria educates medical students and residents, provides clinical care, and conducts research. It hosts several research centers and collaborates with Jump Simulation.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will contribute to medical student education, participate in departmental and college service, and engage in research or scholarly activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver physiology and pathophysiology curricula using various technologies and teaching methods.
  • Employ diverse pedagogical approaches including case-based, lecture, simulation, and team-based learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty across departments and campuses on curriculum implementation.
  • Develop and review assessments, including NBME-style questions.
  • Engage in medical education scholarship.
  • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Facilitate core cases for curriculum blocks.
  • Serve in leadership roles such as Block Lead or Course Director.
  • Maintain a professional and safe learning environment.
  • Act as an academic advisor during phase 1.
  • Collaborate on developing clinical electives and integration into rotations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD, MD/DO, or equivalent
  • Experience in medical education with proven effectiveness
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player with a collaborative approach
  • Commitment to a professional learning environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellence in medical education
  • Experience in curricular material development and delivery
  • Administrative experience in educational or clinical settings
  • Scholarly activity in physiology or medical education
