Job description

Responsibilities

The Department of Social Work at Johnson C. Smith University is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time, tenure-track faculty position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Work. The position is a 12-month appointment in an innovative, traditional BSW program with a focus on evening courses. The position reports to the Director of the BSW program and includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Faculty responsibilities include teaching a full load of 12 credit hours per semester in the evening track of the BSW Program, participating in student recruitment and advising, scholarship, and participating in university and program governance.
  • Ability to teach across the curricula of the undergraduate program.
  • Work collaboratively with the BSW Program Director to develop and implement evaluation and assessment related to student and program outcomes.
  • Representing the Department of Social Work and the BSW Program on various committees and in BSW Program admission decisions.
  • Maintain compliance with program competencies, policies, and procedures, as well as the CSWE accreditation standards for practicum education.
Additional Job Functions

This position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisors, students, faculty, and staff in order to disseminate necessary information and coordinate daily operations. These relationships are maintained through person-to-person contact primarily via video conferencing technology, phone, and e-mail.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have the following required qualifications:

  • A doctorate is required in social work (PhD or DSW) or a related field.
  • An MSW from a CSWE accredited social work program is required.
  • A minimum of two years post MSW practice experience is required.
  • Preferred candidates will hold a certification/license in social work.
  • A minimum of two years of experience teaching in a CSWE accredited program, with at least one year of experience teaching in an undergraduate program, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CSWE Accreditation Standards and process is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate a record of highly successful teaching (including face-to-face, online, and hybrid classroom teaching), scholarship, and university service.
  • Must be able to work independently but also be an active member of a team.
  • Documented ability to develop courses (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
  • Demonstrated competence with online pedagogies.
  • Demonstrated congruence with the mission of the Department of Social Work and Johnson C. Smith University.
  • Ability to embrace diversity to serve a growing higher education community while promoting excellence and innovation.
  • An employment history demonstrating strong character and integrity.
